The PCA confirmed in a statement yesterday that an investigation been launch into the incident last Friday. Ramsahai, 15, of Dookie Trace, Tunapuna, was reportedly killed in an alleged shoot-out with police at Maingot Road. However, his relatives have disputed these reports and claim the teen was murdered.
Police said officers responded to reports that a man with a gun was seen at Maingot Road at around noon. There was a shoot-out ensued and Ramsahai was injured. He later died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope.
Police claimed a 9 mm pistol recovered at the scene belonged to Ramsahai who was out on bail from the St Michael’s Home for Boys for several offences, including possession of arms and narcotics, rape and larceny.
His family claimed reports had been made to the PCA but threats made against the teen by two police officers.
In response, the PCA wrote: “The PCA wishes to advise that to date, no complaint has been lodged in regard to this incident.
“The PCA has initiated an investigation. We ask that Ms Ramsahai come into the PCA to provide any information relevant to the investigation. Additionally, we are asking for any witnesses to or persons with information on or regarding the incident to kindly contact the PCA.”
