A Diego Martin man was shot by police and his two accomplices arrested following a robbery in Williamsville on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old suspect, of Richplain Road, was warded under police guard at the San Fernando General Hospital up to yesterday. Police said he was charged for robbery last September and was recently released on bail.
Police reported that around 3.45 pm on Tuesday, two of the suspects walked into Nice Time Bar in Ben Lomond and ordered the bartender to hand over the day’s sale. They then ran out and escaped in a white Nissan Tiida.
The driver and one of the men were held in the car, but the gunman ran into an old cane field. The officers later found the gunman running along a gravel road. They said they called on him to drop the gun and surrender, but he instead began shooting at them. An officer returned fire and the suspect was shot in the right leg. PC Balgobin recovered a .38 revolver, three rounds of ammunition and one spent shell.
The suspect was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital and warded under police guard.
