Apart from the late start of the mas bands crossing the judging point at South Quay, Port-of-Spain judging point yesterday, at times, there were lengthy gaps between bands and intervals of rain.

Masqueraders jammed still, seemingly not too concerned with scoring high on the judges’ list, but rather just having fun. The first band remained in cue for at least 20 minutes before crossing the judging point.

This band titled Sky Gazers of which made up three sections crossed the stage at just about 12.20 pm. It was led by two Kings, Ted Eustace doing the portrayal of Crypto Lord of the Galaxy, Fareid Carvalho portraying Fantasmo—Master Of Make Believe from the presentation Paparazzi and its Queen Krystal Thomas doing the portrayal De Nebula from the presentation Fantasy—Sky Gazers.

They were followed by Tribe with the presentation in the large band category, The Lost Tribe—Valkimi Maharaj.

The presentation stood out among all other bands as masqueraders danced the streets bearing placards in hand that conveyed the messages of peace, love, unity and the fight against all social ills affecting T&T.

Some read, “I believe in Sweet T&T”. While others called for better recognition and rewards for the arts.

Spectators were few but nonetheless, those present got up close and personal views of presentations by the bands Legacy,

Yuma, Bliss and Ronnie and Caro with their presentation Fearless 10. Bandleader Ronnie Mc Intosh told the T&T Guardian despite the state of the economy, he was thankful band members have remained loyal.

Without a doubt the choice of song for all bands that passed the South Quay down town Port-of-Spain judging point was that of Road March contender Full Extreme performed by soca artiste MX Prime and Ultimate Rejects. With the song in loop, deejays aboard music trucks gave the people what they want as they called for ‘dey tune.’

Portrayals of the Midnight Robber, Pierrot Grenade and other individuals and small bands also offered their presentations for judging.
