It is the sign of things to come. That was the warning from head of the Port-of-Spain Division Senior Supt Johnny Abraham following an anti-crime exercise held in east Port of Spain yesterday.
Warning criminals that they would face the full brunt of the law Abraham added: "We are going after the criminals hard from now until Christmas to ensure that they don't come back to Port-of-Spain which is the capital of the shopping area."
During the exercise some 24 people also were arrested for a range of offences after police, including members of the Inter-Agency Task Force, the Guard and Emergency Branch and the Stolen Vehicles Squad, searched a number of homes in Nelson and George Streets around 6 am yesterday.
Abraham said during the exercise a quantity of cocaine and marijuana also was discovered along with several rounds of ammunition and a gun.
Abraham added that several cases of perfume believed to have been stolen from Pennywise Cosmetics Ltd also were seized.
Saying that crime was everybody's business Abraham urged members of the public to play their part in keeping the criminal elements at bay.
It was only last Friday that DCP Glenn Hackette said the police would be intensifying their actions to stamp out lawlessness.
A similar exercise was held in east Trinidad. The raids followed an upsurge in criminal activities and homicides.
